When photographer Bruce Weber teamed up with Abercrombie & Fitch in the mid ’90s, the resulting marketing campaign and catalog made the newly revamped brand a fashion industry success story. The “Abercrombie look” was born and spawned many imitators. Buoyed by its rapid success the catalogs became racier with the models shedding their Abercrombies and baring all. Controversy followed, sales increased.

In this edition, the editors traveled to London to meet with renown Slovenian philosopher and cultural critic, Slavoj Žižek, who gained international recognition with the English publication of his book, The Sublime Object of Ideology and The Plague of Fantasies. He has been a visiting professor at, among others, the University of Chicago, Columbia University, London Consortium, Princeton, New York University, The New School, the University of Minnesota, the University of California, Irvine and the University of Michigan. He is currently the International Director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities at Birkbeck, University of London and president of the Society for Theoretical Psychoanalysis, Ljubljana. The professor’s observations are displayed in bold text that accompany a photo essay that could be considered equally bold for a mainstream publication. But what would one expect from a publication labeled, The Sex Ed Issue?

The A+F Quarterly 2003 Sex Ed issue lays it all bare:
Ask A+F:  More curious/crazy queries from readers.
College Humor: Explore the websites of some of the top college humor mags.
Schools In/Out: We don’t need no education — or do we?
Freshman fitness: Pound for pound, five methods for getting rid of the dreaded 15.
Naked Party: Party naked!

Plus interviews with  Jaime Kennedy, Paula Abdul and pioneer talk-show host, Merv Griffin, creator of  Jeopardy and composer of that catchy Jeopardy tune.

Highly sought after when they were published, the A+F Quarterly is a hot collectible. The Sex Ed Issue is a prime example of the publication that made it so.
